Note: This is a sequel to a previous work, Epoch. (See description for link.) If you've not read Epoch, this will be confusing. :)

Chapter 1

The day Brad had both awaited and dreaded had finally arrived. He was being released from prison. He had been assigned a short-term lease in a small apartment and a career counselor to help him "re-integrate" as they called it.

"Right," he mumbled under his breath at the thought. Very few felons were welcomed back into society with open arms, but Brad had read enough newspapers and magazines to know that he was particularly unpopular. After the night at the bonfire three years ago and the local giant's rise to fame and popularity, Brad found himself cast as the arch-nemesis of the Harper Vale's town hero. Which made most people in town rather disinclined to hire him.

After over two months of filling out application after application and not getting so much as a response, Brad finally received a letter in the mail. A plain, nondescript envelope with a hand-written address. He frowned, opening it up. A single half-sheet of paper slid out.

Mr. Hockley-

It is my understanding that you are currently seeking employment. I am currently looking for a night watchman for my company building. If this position interests you, please report to the below address anytime Monday through Friday, three pm to five pm for an interview.

We hope to see you soon.

-Doctor Jerald Resdeo

Brad frowned, flipping the page over. No company name. Had he applied to this place? He had certainly not actually applied for any night watchman positions. That had to be on the top ten list of jobs one did not give to a felon, after all. They must have found him on one of the job boards he had posted on.

He shrugged mentally. It was the only lead he'd had in two months. He had to follow up on it or risk losing his re-integration benefits.
Sorry to put the author's note up there, but I just wanted to make sure people could see it BEFORE reading. ^^;

Anyway. I am REALLLLLY nervous about doing this. I've never done ANY kind of "sequel" (at least not to my own work) and I'm well aware that they are not often seen as favorable. The fact that we're starting off with Brad might have people frothing at the mouth already. @_@

But look! He has a last name! And the town has a name! Go me. >.>
